Our Mission

Why We Exist

Zephyr Education was established in 2013 by a group of volunteers who recognized a critical gap in support for children fleeing domestic and family violence. When families arrive at DFV shelters the children often have no school uniforms, books and supplies making it difficult for them to start at a new school and fit in with their peers.

Education is vital for the future of these children and their ability to heal from trauma. Missing school or standing out because they don’t have the right uniform can compound their challenges and affect their self-esteem.

Our mission is simple: ensure every child affected by domestic and family violence can restart at their new school fully equipped, confident, and ready to learn – usually within 48 hours of arriving at a shelter.
